Jana Sarantis is dedicated to improving our community. With a focus on accountability, transparency, improving vital services and infrastructure, and protecting our environment. Jana is committed to making a difference in the Swan Hill Rural City Munincipality.

My Policy Platform

  • Community-Lead leadership. Tell me what you would like to see. Every voice will be listened to and considered.
  • Overhaul internal Council toxic and dysfunctional dynamics to attract and retain skilled public servants. Strengthening relationships with the State Government for impactful advocacy and more effective lobbying.
  • Invest in improving our services and infrastructure, prioritising bringing our roads up to an acceptable standard, improving childhood literacy and development, accelerate the transition to a local net-zero renewable economy.
  • Pursue all avenues to increase housing availability, including rebuilding our planning department, reducing building approval red tape.
  • Accountability is essential. Mistakes happen, but we need to take responsibility and rectify errors promptly when they happen. We cannot be misleading or dismissing the community's concerns. 
  • Increased transparency, aiming to improve lines of communication with the community, rebuild trust and mutual respect. 
  • Protect our natural environment, water resources and climate for future prosperity as an important agricultural region.

What are the key issues/policies?

I am community-lead, which means voices from the community will help shape my policies and decisions once elected. 

I will be working hard to make council more accountable, transparent, efficient, and a less dysfunctional workplace.

My aim is to get the basics right (fix our roads properly and rectify past mistakes). I aim to act more strongly on protecting our environment, climate and transition to a net-zero renewable economy. 

Who am I and what qualifications do I have?

I am a business owner/working mother of two with a desire to make our region a better place to work, live and raise families now and into the future. 

In 2024 I completed a Certificate of Community Leadership and Governance (Local Government) through the Women Leading Locally Fellowship.

I am on the Executive Committee for Housing Action: Greater Swan Hill.

I am the President of Sustainable Living in the Mallee (SLIM), a local not-for-profit community group. 

I am a Business Owner/Osteopath at MyOsteoCare in Swan Hill. I have my Masters degree in Osteopathy, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Animal Biomechanical Medicine.
